Summary: DOE intends to support technologies using domestic biomass, refinery assets, and pipeline resources to expand alternative chemicals, fuels, and feedstocks.
Key Information: This is an informational Notice of Intent, not a request for applications or comments; a future NOFO may differ or may not be issued.
The Department of Energy’s Golden Field Office has published a Notice of Intent for a potential funding opportunity that CMEI intends to issue on behalf of AFFO. The planned NOFO would support financial assistance awards advancing science and engineering, energy addition, and American energy innovation. Its focus is innovative technologies that harness existing domestic biomass and pipeline resources to expand energy production and distribution.
The proposed work spans stable, biomass-derived liquid intermediates that can be sold as commodities or upgraded into renewable fuels and chemicals; commodity chemicals and fuels produced at market prices from alternative feedstocks using existing refinery assets; and blended hydrogen–natural gas pilot sites that closely simulate actual distribution networks. The pilot work aims to improve reliability, scalability, suitability, performance, and durability.
