    Description

The Medieval Institute at the University of Notre Dame offers a limited number of Niarchos Byzantine Travel Bursaries, funded through the generosity of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. The bursaries support Notre Dame faculty and graduate students traveling for research in Byzantine Studies, broadly conceived, and form part of the Institute’s competitively awarded grants and fellowships.

Supported activities include presenting a Byzantine-related paper at a national or international conference, examining a Byzantine manuscript at a foreign research library, and undertaking relevant research training at another institution when that training is otherwise unavailable at Notre Dame. These examples are not exhaustive. Applicants should explain the travel’s connection to Byzantine Studies, particularly when that connection may not be immediately evident.
