Description
This funding opportunity, co-funded by the Research Council of Finland and the European Commission under the Biodiversa+ partnership, supports innovative, interdisciplinary research on novel ecosystems—ecosystems significantly altered by human influence, with new biotic, abiotic, and social characteristics. Projects should investigate the biodiversity, functioning, societal impacts, and future trajectories of such ecosystems, contributing actionable knowledge for transformative change aligned with global biodiversity goals.
The call encourages holistic, systemic, and integrated approaches, spanning terrestrial, freshwater, marine, and coastal realms worldwide. Research should address at least one of three themes: ecosystem functioning, pathways to novel ecosystems, and equitable sharing of biodiversity benefits.
