Summary: Supports leading professors conducting novel fundamental bioscience and biomedical research into human biology and mechanisms underlying health and disease.
Key Information: Applicants must be professors with their employment and primary research group in Denmark during the project; clinical obligations are not permitted.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Distinguished Investigator grant supports leading professors pursuing novel, ambitious fundamental research that advances understanding of the human organism and the basic mechanisms underlying health and disease. Part of the Research Leader Programme, it aims to catalyse Danish research through projects with high scientific impact that justify substantial, long-term support.
Research fields include molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics, modelling of biological systems, enzymology, genetics, microbiology, pharmacology, experimental physiology, biophysics, biochemistry, biology and biostatistics. Research typically uses animals, cellular or subcellular model systems, or in silico approaches. The Committee on Bioscience and Basic Biomedicine assesses applications, considering both the proposed project and the investigator.
