The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Start Package Grants help Danish universities, hospitals, and other nonprofit research institutions compete for excellent researchers. Funding provides leverage during recruitment and contract negotiations and supports the recruited candidate’s establishment of an independent research group. The programme encourages mobility across national borders, between Danish institutions, and from industry to academia.
The Q1 2027 guidelines prioritise cardiometabolic disease and healthy lifespan, resilience against drug-resistant and respiratory infections, stem cell-based medicine, nutritious food with minimal environmental impact, sustainable biomanufacturing, and quantum technologies for health and planetary health. Fundamental and interdisciplinary research and technology development with potential applications in these themes are supported. Candidates’ research should bring substantial value or novelty and align with both the recruiting institution’s strategy and the Foundation’s 2030 Strategy.
