The NRCS EQIP Top-Off Incentive provides financial support to Maine farmers participating in the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). Offered through the Maine Healthy Soils Program, the incentive promotes participation in federal soil health conservation programs and links payments to eligible EQIP conservation practices.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Agricultural Resource Development Division administers the program. Its goals are to improve on-farm soil health, strengthen Maine’s agricultural economy and environment, and help farmers adapt to a changing climate. The program takes a holistic approach that considers both farmland conditions and each farm operation’s capacity. The incentive complements soil health testing, consultations, field days, training, and education and outreach.
