Description
This opportunity supports collaborative research between U.S. and German researchers under the research cooperation agreement between NSF and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Participating divisions are NSF’s Chemistry (CHE) and Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental and Transport Systems (CBET), and DFG’s Physics and Chemistry (PC) and Engineering Sciences 1 (ING 1). Research must fall within a participating program’s scope at both agencies.
Teams submit one joint proposal for a single review, reducing the barriers created by separate national review processes. The lead agency is determined by where the greater proportion of research will occur. Proposals must explain why U.S.–German collaboration is necessary and identify the collaborating groups’ unique expertise and synergy. Each agency retains budgetary control and supports researchers in its own country.
