    Description

The National Speleological Society (NSS) supports international speleological participation through grants administered by its International Secretary. The program emphasizes projects that benefit both the NSS and foreign speleology, create continuing channels for exchanging speleological information and techniques, and offer scientific value. Support for a foreign speleologist’s visit to the United States depends on the visit’s purpose and its benefit to the NSS.

Grants draw on the International Support Fund, established with revenue remaining after the Eighth International Congress of Speleology, hosted by the NSS in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1981. Written applications are reviewed by a three-person committee comprising the International Secretary, the Chairman of the Research Advisory Committee, and the NSS President.
