The Nursing Shortage Reduction Program (NSRP), administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), supports eligible Texas institutions with professional nursing programs preparing students for initial registered nurse licensure. Established by the Texas Legislature in 2001, it addresses the state’s nursing shortage by helping programs enroll, retain, and graduate more nursing students.
Supported initiatives include additional enrollment, evidence-based student recruitment and retention, and innovative or evidence-based approaches to using faculty, instructional and clinical space, and other resources efficiently. Projects may share services, courses, personnel, facilities, and responsibilities across programs or employ preceptors and part-time faculty for expanded clinical instruction. Funding also supports professional nursing faculty education, recruitment, and retention.
