Description
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) provides Nutrient Management Farmer Education grants to local organizations that teach farmers to develop their own nutrient management plans. Tier 1 supports training for farmers and plan writers that results in plans compliant with the 590 nutrient management standard. It can fund participant payments for soil testing and training, as well as training delivery and support costs.
Tier 2 supports nutrient management education without requiring participants to produce a 590-compliant plan. Projects can include field events, educational equipment and implementation reviews that help farmers understand and use their plans. DATCP also offers an online, self-paced curriculum that organizations can use in farmer training.
