The Community Reforestation (CoRe) Grant Round 2 is administered by DEC’s Urban and Community Forestry Program. It supports establishing, expanding, and restoring forested natural areas in or near New York’s urban communities. Projects may establish forests on previously non-forested land, supplement regeneration or replant after disturbance, restore degraded stands, control competing vegetation, and protect seedlings from deer browsing.
Funded through the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, the program contributes to Governor Hochul’s “25 Million Trees by 2033” initiative. Its goals include climate resilience, community health, tree equity, biodiversity, improved air and water quality, and reduced stormwater runoff and extreme heat. This opportunity targets forested natural areas rather than individual street or landscaped park trees.
