    Description

The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) will select one organization to expand Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) statewide. The training teaches teens ages 14–18 to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges among peers, understand the effects of bullying and school violence, discuss concerns, and seek help from a responsible adult.

The initiative combines student training with Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training for adults and certification of new instructors. Its goal is sustainable training capacity that gives all New York State tenth graders access to tMHFA. The awardee will coordinate statewide implementation, outreach, partnerships, data collection, and quality improvement, following the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s program standards. Training capacity and an outreach and implementation plan must support access for all tenth graders by the end of Year 4.
