The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) will fund three Safe Options Support (SOS) Overnight Outreach Teams serving Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. A single provider will operate the teams and an overnight coordinator responsible for referrals, deployment, and interagency communication. The program serves individuals experiencing street homelessness through outreach in streets, subway stations, hospital emergency departments, and other public locations when traditional services are unavailable.
Teams provide person-centered, trauma-informed engagement, crisis intervention, immediate stabilization, and connections to emergency shelter, Safe Haven, stabilization beds, and basic necessities. The provider will coordinate with the SOS NYC Hub, daytime SOS teams, hospitals, DHS, MTA, and other partners. Clear handoffs to daytime services are intended to maintain ongoing outreach, case management, housing support, and continuity of care.
