    Description

The New York State Maritime Heritage Preservation Subgrant supports competitive preservation projects for New York’s historic maritime resources. The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation administers the program through its Division for Historic Preservation, also known as the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), with National Park Service funding. The program targets brick-and-mortar preservation and associated pre-development work for significant resources facing an uncertain future.

Eligible work includes identifying and documenting resources, archaeological investigation, preservation research and planning, and repair, rehabilitation, stabilization, or maintenance. Examples include lighthouses and historic vessels, with related measured drawings, photography, feasibility studies, and architectural or engineering services. Projects should advance maritime heritage through public education and access. Preference goes to resources facing sustained, continued, or imminent threats, including deterioration, deferred maintenance, neglect, and inappropriate treatments.
