Description
Administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship supports an artist’s vision or voice rather than a proposed project. It serves artists at all levels of artistic development, awarding unrestricted cash grants across fifteen disciplines on a three-year rotation, with five disciplines offered annually. The program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts, with support from the Office of the Governor, the New York State Legislature, and additional donors.
Discipline-specific peer panels assess artistic merit, clarity and cohesiveness, and originality and innovation. Work responsive to a particular place, community, or environment can demonstrate innovation. The program prioritizes New York State residents outside the New York City metropolitan area, without guaranteeing an award.
