Description
NYSCA Support for Artists funds the creation and development of artistic work by New York State artists at all career stages. Run by the New York State Council on the Arts, it seeks to strengthen the state's diverse artistic voices, support significant growth in individual artists' development, and connect artists with the artistic goals of sponsoring or commissioning organizations. Funding serves as an artist or commissioning fee rather than reimbursement for specific production expenses.
The program accepts work across eight artistic areas, from choreography and composition to literature, media, interdisciplinary practice, and visual arts. Creativity is the central review criterion, including artistic vision, distinctiveness, contributions to the discipline, and prospects for completion. Funded artists must share an aspect of their project with New York State audiences through a publicly accessible presentation, work-in-progress showing, artist talk, or other public program.
