The New Zealand Mathematical Society (NZMS), through its Council, provides financial assistance for mathematical research-related activities that further the Society’s objects. Support can cover hosting mathematical visitors, organising mathematical conferences, workshops or outreach activities, and attending conferences or undertaking other research-related travel. Conference attendance and research-related travel may include costs associated with family responsibilities.
The programme has three funding categories: Research Grants, Conference/Workshop/Outreach activity organisation, and grants from the South Pacific Fund. These support non-student NZMS members, organisers of New Zealand-based mathematical events, and researchers from the University of the South Pacific, respectively. Applications involving contact between the mathematical communities of New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific receive relatively high priority.
