--- ## Description The AKC Canine Health Foundation Oak Grants program funds impactful, large-scale research projects and clinical trials that address significant health priorities in dogs. These grants are intended to support studies that develop innovative treatments, preventive measures, and diagnostic tools, with a focus on projects that deliver substantial advances in canine medicine and scientific discovery. Oak Grants are designed for established investigators or collaborative, multidisciplinary teams with the resources and expertise to conduct ambitious, high-impact research aimed at improving the health and well-being of dogs worldwide. --- ## Due Dates - June 24, 2025: Oak pre-proposal deadline (Fall 2025 Cycle) - September 1, 2025: Oak full proposal deadline (Fall 2025 Cycle) --- ## Funding Amount - Minimum request: $30,000 per project (including up to 15% indirect costs) - Typical awards: $30,000 to $375,000+ depending on project scope and duration - Indirect costs capped at 15% of total grant budget - Project duration: varies according to research needs --- ## Eligibility - Applicants must be established investigators, veterinary clinical scientists, or teams at research institutions with a demonstrated record in canine health research. - Multidisciplinary collaborations are encouraged, especially for complex or high-impact studies. - Projects must align with the AKC Canine Health Foundation’s mission to advance canine health through sound scientific research and dissemination of health information. - All projects must strictly adhere to the Foundation’s [Humane Use of Animals Policy](https://www.akcchf.org/wp-content/uploads/AKC-CHF-Humane-Use-of-Animals-Policy.pdf). - Early Career Investigators may apply but must provide additional documentation (e.g., mentorship and institutional support letters). - Projects involving non-client-owned dogs, disease induction, or injury models are ineligible. --- ## Application Process 1. **Pre-proposal submission**: Required via the online system by June 24, 2025. Only invited applicants may submit a full proposal. 2. **Full proposal submission**: By invitation only, due September 1, 2025. 3. **Application materials** must include: - Research proposal (CHF format) - Signature page (PI, Co-PI, admin official) - Lay summary - Detailed budget and justification (using CHF template) - Combined biosketches for all key personnel - Industry involvement disclosure - Documentation of other research support - Statement of applicant permission (via portal) - Letters of support, client consent forms, and institutional appointment letters as applicable 4. **Review**: Proposals are peer-reviewed for scientific merit, impact, and alignment with CHF priorities. 5. **Reporting**: Grantees must submit periodic progress and final reports, as well as financial reports, per CHF requirements.
