The Neurological Foundation’s O’Brien Clinical Fellowships support non-medical health professionals pursuing careers in clinical research. Established in 2017 through a bequest from the Estate of Mr Daniel O’Brien, the fellowships provide salary support to make research part of a health professional’s work. Fellows may undertake clinical or biomedical neurological research in New Zealand or overseas, supported by mentoring and a research environment that develops their skills and experience.
Research should contribute to understanding, preventing, diagnosing, predicting the course of, treating or managing diseases and disorders of the central and peripheral nervous systems. Proposals must have clear outcomes that add to neurological knowledge. The Foundation values potential advances in the field, benefits for people affected by neurological conditions, neuroscience capacity-building, collaboration, dissemination and changes in clinical practice.
