Description
The Off-Highway Vehicle Grant Program supports projects that enhance and maintain OHV recreational opportunities for enthusiasts in Montana. Eligible work includes trail development, improvement and maintenance, trail steward positions, safety and ethics education, trailhead facilities and signage, and noxious weed eradication alongside OHV trails. Educational projects may include school training, public outreach, brochures, videos, and posters.
Montana State Parks administers the program with funds appropriated by the State Legislature, including revenues from OHV Nonresident Temporary-Use Permits and state gas taxes. The Off-Highway Vehicle Advisory Committee, representing user groups and land management agencies across Montana, reviews applications and recommends funding to FWP. The program seeks equitable statewide distribution of funding and benefits to OHV recreation. This is the original OHV program, distinct from the Summer Motorized (OHV) Trail Pass Grant Program.
