    Description

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) administers this non-competitive continuation opportunity through the federal Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program, authorized by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022. The Statewide Research Partner supports OGR and funded Massachusetts local law enforcement and state agency programs through strategic analysis, research, federally required data collection, reporting, and technical assistance.

The work examines the effectiveness of crisis intervention programs and extreme risk protection order (ERPO) initiatives in preventing gun violence and gun-related suicide, including measures to safeguard affected individuals’ constitutional rights. The partner helps funded sites improve program operations, use evidence-based practices, monitor implementation fidelity, and produce timely, accurate reporting. Recommendations draw on program outcomes and research literature to improve services, collaboration, strategies, and data collection.
