Description
The Ohio Coal Research and Development Program is administered by the Ohio Coal Development Office within the Ohio Department of Development. It supports research through full-scale demonstration of technologies that use Ohio coal as a fuel or chemical feedstock in an economically viable, environmentally acceptable manner. The program aims to improve environmental performance, expand markets for Ohio coal, and advance technologies toward commercial use.
Areas of interest include more efficient combustion and coal-based power, fuel, and chemical production; carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and storage; pollution reduction; conversion of coal into value-added products; and productive uses for combustion by-products. The program also considers analysis of transportation electrification or energy storage impacts on Ohio coal, and other projects certified as mission-critical by the office’s director.
