Field School Teaching Grants are administered by Ohio State University’s Global Arts + Humanities (GAH) Cross-Disciplinary Research Exchange. They support interdisciplinary, faculty-led programs that immerse undergraduates in the transformational value of the humanities and arts. Through experiential learning at domestic destinations, field schools connect classroom knowledge with practice while advancing GAH’s commitment to understanding, representing and addressing global concerns.
Field schools may take the form of a one-credit undergraduate course or group independent study. Each combines preparation before travel, an immersive learning-site experience, and reflective work afterward. Collaboration with community-based partners should connect the experience to student learning outcomes and support repeat offerings. Projects also produce documentation suitable for the GAH website, such as performances, podcasts, videos, blogs, a website or a publication.
