Description
The Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture and the Folger Institute at the Folger Shakespeare Library jointly offer this short-term fellowship to fund studies of early America, broadly understood. It supports researchers from advanced graduate students to senior scholars with interests in Atlantic history, colonial history, literary studies, performance history, and material culture.
The fellowship supports work at the Folger Institute in Washington, DC. Beyond Shakespeare, the Folger’s collections document British and European literary, cultural, political, religious, theatrical, and social history from the fifteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Manuscripts, printed books, art, and maps offer resources for studying early modern interactions among African, American, and European women and men, connecting research on early America with the wider Atlantic and Pacific worlds.
