Description
The Oklahoma Arts Council selects one organization to coordinate and implement Oklahoma’s annual Poetry Out Loud competition in high schools statewide. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry memorization and recitation program associated with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. It aims to help students develop public speaking and analytical skills, build confidence, and engage with literary history, contemporary life, and creative writing.
The partner promotes the contest, distributes materials to participating schools, provides technical assistance, facilitates the state contest and any regional contests, and coordinates the state winner’s preparation and travel for the national contest. The Council encourages originality in how the selected organization carries out this work.
