CIHR, under the scientific leadership of its Institute of Infection and Immunity, supports mid-career vaccine researchers in Canada working on infectious diseases of epidemic potential. The program aims to strengthen pandemic preparedness, mobilize new knowledge, and develop national and international research leadership through mutually beneficial exchanges with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) or National Research Council Canada (NRC).
Collaborations provide exposure to national and global expertise, advanced technologies and facilities, and academic, public health, and industrial networks. Research must address global health threats and pandemic preparedness while aligning with the selected partner’s research priorities and CIHR-III’s mandate. Supported areas span vaccine development, immunology, epidemiology, diagnostics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, RNA vaccine technologies, organ-on-chip testing, and bioprocess innovation.
