Description
The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS), in coordination with the South Dakota Opioid Advisory Committee, administers opioid settlement funding for prevention, treatment, recovery support, and relapse reduction across South Dakota. Guided by the FY27–FY30 Opioid Settlement Strategic Plan, the framework supports the full continuum of opioid remediation, including justice-impacted services, treatment capacity, community infrastructure, evidence-based prevention, and local community needs.
The program extends beyond people whose primary diagnosis is opioid use disorder. It also supports strategies addressing limited opioid use, risk of opioid use, and conditions occurring alongside opioid use concerns. Priorities include collaboration, measurable outcomes, statewide reach, and alignment with needs identified through the statewide opioid needs assessment. Funding comes from South Dakota’s share of national opioid settlements.
