Description
Virginia Humanities awards Opportunity Grants to help cultural nonprofits plan and implement public humanities projects with a smaller scope and shorter timeline than Major Grants. Awarded twice a year, the grants offer a path for time-sensitive or focused work that calls for rigorous humanities engagement.
Projects may include public discussions, community and oral history, exhibitions, festivals, interpretive performances, lectures, and public components of conferences. K–12 curriculum resources, teacher institutes, media projects, publications, project planning, and research leading to public programming are also supported. The emphasis is on making humanities ideas and histories accessible to broad audiences. Arts-related projects must interpret the arts rather than primarily produce art.
