    Description

The Hagley Library’s Oral History Office supports serious research using oral history as a principal source to explore the interconnected histories of American business, technology, and society. The program funds graduate students working on theses or dissertations and more advanced scholars pursuing books or other scholarly projects. It aims to expand Hagley’s collections on business and its relationship to society, encourage wider use of oral interviews, and preserve current projects as a foundation for future research.

Hagley especially seeks oral histories documenting the roles of women, African Americans, and other ethnic minorities in American business and technology. Its collecting interests encompass innovation and maintenance, change and continuity, success and failure, and institutional and personal experiences. Interviews from funded projects become part of Hagley’s permanently preserved collection.
