    Description

Oregon Sea Grant’s Seed-to-Leaf competition supports innovative, scientifically rigorous research addressing important marine and coastal problems connected to community needs. Researchers combine socioeconomic, biophysical, or other integrated disciplines to develop approaches relevant to Oregon’s coastal communities and ecosystems. The Seed phase provides 12 months to gather preliminary data, convene research and engagement teams, and plan with community partners, ideally establishing the groundwork for a larger Leaf project.

Engagement and outreach are integral to the research. Projects must involve potential information users and interested parties in research development or application, making the process and results useful and usable. Oregon Sea Grant particularly values co-designed outcomes and incorporation of traditional, Indigenous, or local knowledge. Successful Seed teams may compete for longer-term Leaf support through a separate request for proposals.
