Description
The Orphan Well Plugging Grant Program supports the remediation of abandoned oil and gas wells across Pennsylvania. Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), this program is designed to reduce methane emissions, protect groundwater, and improve public safety by funding the safe plugging of orphan wells—wells abandoned prior to April 18, 1985, with no responsible operator. Grants are awarded to qualified well pluggers who demonstrate the capacity to meet state regulatory requirements for well closure.
