The Ornithological Society of the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia (OSME) supports bird research, conservation and educational projects through its Conservation Fund. Funding priorities include investigating threatened and Near-threatened birds, improving knowledge of Important Bird Areas (IBAs), exploring potential new IBAs and ornithologically little-known areas, and studying the ecology of little-known species. Studies of illegal bird killing and unsustainable hunting are also supported.
Educational programmes, especially those aimed at school children and young people, are another focus. OSME gives priority to projects initiated and carried out by nationals of countries in its region, projects that actively engage local communities through education, and work with a long-term sustainability element, such as training local counterparts.
