Description
The Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant is a competitive statewide program funded by the New Mexico Economic Development Department and administered by its Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD). Launched in 2020, it supports planning, development, maintenance, and improvement of nature-based outdoor recreation infrastructure, including trails, river access, trailheads, wildlife viewing areas, signage, and visitor facilities.
The program aims to expand access to the outdoors, strengthen local economies, improve community health, and preserve New Mexico’s natural and cultural resources. It prioritizes equitable access in rural, Tribal, and historically underserved communities. Projects should demonstrate clear community benefit and readiness to proceed; strong partnerships with clearly defined roles receive priority.
