Description
The Overseas Faculty Development Seminars, organized by the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC), offer fully funded, short-term academic programs abroad for U.S. higher education faculty and administrators. These seminars are designed to deepen participants’ subject-matter expertise and global perspective through site-based learning, expert-led discussions, and direct engagement with local institutions and communities. Each program focuses on a specific region or theme, such as West Africa (Senegal), Brazil (agriculture and forestry), or Bangladesh (development challenges), and features a combination of lectures, field visits, collaborative exchanges, and cultural immersion.
The seminars aim to equip educators with firsthand insights and teaching materials that can be integrated into their academic and professional work. Participants are expected to implement a follow-on project (such as curriculum development, public programming, or research collaboration) at their home institution within one year of participation.
