Description
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Overseas Research Fellowships support excellent young researchers undertaking sustained research at a university or research institution outside Japan. The program covers all fields of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Its goal is to develop highly capable researchers with broad international perspectives who can play leading roles in the future of science.
Alongside the standard fellowship, the program offers a prospective-selectee route for doctoral students and Restart Research Abroad (RRA). Launched in fiscal year 2016, RRA supports researchers returning to overseas research after interruptions associated with childbirth, child raising, family nursing or caregiving, or qualifying relocation following marriage. Fellows conduct their proposed research under an overseas host researcher for two years and are not employed by JSPS.
