The Pairi Daiza Foundation and the Royal Belgian Zoological Society have jointly offered this grant since 2021 to encourage scientific research on animal biodiversity conservation. Projects must focus on one or more animal species and highlight potential conservation benefits in situ and/or ex situ. Eligible activities include field trips and research stays at zoos, aquariums, museums, or other institutions.
The program connects conservation research with public science education, reflecting the Foundation’s goal of strengthening people’s connection with nature and ensuring that animals in zoological parks contribute to scientific progress benefiting endangered species. Supported research may be shared through Pairi Daiza’s social media, print, and television channels. Multi-institution projects are encouraged, and projects involving the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) receive preference.
