Summary: Supports single palaeontological research projects and proof-of-concept studies intended to underpin future applications to national research funders.
Key Information: Applicants must be Association members; current PhD students are not eligible.
The Palaeontological Association’s Research Grants support palaeontological research by independent scientific investigators. Grants normally fund a single research project or a proof-of-concept study intended to support future applications to national research funding bodies. Field-based projects are eligible when their scientific objectives and anticipated outcomes are clear. The scheme favours work with a single purpose rather than supplementary funding for other grant applications.
Projects must align with the Association’s charitable aims. The programme prioritises scientific quality, novelty, timeliness and likely outputs, alongside feasibility, value for money and the investigator’s ability to deliver the research. Applicants are expected to consider relevant ethical issues and work meaningfully and mutually beneficially with local collaborators where appropriate. Proposals must also address dissemination, including contributions to public understanding of science.
