The ASE Foundation administers this scholarship to support the future of echocardiographic research through clinical and translational investigations in advanced cardiovascular ultrasound. Established in honor of Dr. Pamela S. Douglas, ASE’s thirteenth President, the program gives young scholars protected research time and mentorship to pursue impactful investigations and develop careers as independent echocardiographic investigators.
The award supports research development with a one-year salary scholarship. Its 2026 recipient’s project illustrates the program’s connection to imaging access and patient care: Nicholas Spetko, MD, MSc, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is linking sonographer credentialing data, state-level employment characteristics, and administrative claims to investigate how sonographer shortages limit access to echocardiography.
