The Pantzer Scholarship is an annual research award administered by The Bibliographical Society through its Fellowships and Bursaries Committee. Established through a bequest from the estate of bibliographer Katharine F. Pantzer Jr, it supports the bibliographical or book-historical study of printed books from the hand-press period, extending to approximately 1830.
The Society supports research that treats the physical book as historical evidence and advances understanding of book cultures worldwide. Its awards aim to initiate, encourage and disseminate innovative, high-quality, publishable research, especially by early career researchers. Support can address immediate research needs, such as travel and reproductions, or longer-term work involving visits to libraries and archives. The Scholarship is distinct from the Society’s occasionally awarded Pantzer Fellowship.
