Funder: Novo Nordisk Foundation
Due Dates (Anticipated): April 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to DKK 200,000 per grant, with annual support capped at DKK 200,000 per university
Summary: Supports Danish university teams’ participation in iGEM and the Grand Jamboree to strengthen synthetic biology and genetic engineering education.
Key Information: Each eligible Danish university may nominate only one iGEM team per year.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation supports student teams from relevant Danish universities taking part in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition and its Grand Jamboree. The program aims to strengthen education in synthetic biology and genetic engineering and contribute to the internationalization of Danish university programs. The Foundation’s support covers participation during 2020–2027, with a research-area focus on biotechnology-based synthesis and production.
The competition is run by the independent, nonprofit iGEM Foundation, which advances synthetic biology through education, competition, and an open, cooperative community. Multidisciplinary student teams tackle real-world problems by designing, building, testing, and measuring biological systems using interchangeable biological parts and standard molecular biology techniques. Teams then present their work and compete at the Grand Jamboree.
