SSHRC’s Partnership Development Grants support teams developing partnered research and related activities in the social sciences and humanities. Funding supports new partnerships, distinct new activities within existing partnerships, or the design and testing of partnership approaches that could become adaptable best practices or scalable models. Activities can include research, cross-sector knowledge co-creation, networks, and partnered knowledge mobilization.

Formal partnerships may be disciplinary, interdisciplinary, interinstitutional, international or cross-sector. Leadership can come from researchers or partner organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. SSHRC welcomes Indigenous research and research-creation. Meaningful participation by students and emerging scholars, including training, mentoring and employability activities, is an important part of the initiative’s assessment.
