The Paton Historical Studies Fund is run by The Physiological Society to support research and engagement with the history of modern physiology. Established in July 1990 through a £5,000 donation from Sir William Paton and a matching contribution from the Society, it promotes historical study of physiological experiment and discovery. The Society’s History & Archives Group considers a broad range of projects consistent with this purpose.
Supported activities include archival visits connected to ongoing research, lectures or lecture series, preservation and cataloguing of equipment collections, conventional or digital publication, and conducting and finalising oral history interviews. Use of the Society’s own archive at the Wellcome Library in London is particularly encouraged. The fund supports both historical research and activities that engage others with physiology’s past.
