Description
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP) administers this program for state agencies and local governments. It supports work that improves the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner or coroner services, including reducing evidence-analysis backlogs and training or employing personnel to address them. Funds can also support the implementation of emerging forensic technologies and processes in public laboratories, but not research.
The program welcomes projects addressing the demands that opioids and synthetic drugs place on crime laboratories and death-investigation services. Other eligible purposes include training forensic pathologists and helping medical examiner and coroner offices pursue accreditation or investigator certification.
