Description
The Washington State Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian and Bicyclist Program funds projects across Washington that make walking, biking, and rolling safer and more practical. Its goals are to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety and mobility and increase active transportation trips. The program has supported projects since 2005 and is funded through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act and the state multimodal transportation account.
Applicants can propose infrastructure that connects destinations or fills gaps in an active transportation network, including preliminary engineering and right-of-way purchase. A separate development/design-only category supports community engagement and analysis where the need is known but the solution remains uncertain. That category is intended to produce a 100% design for at least one project, not to fund preliminary engineering alone.
