Description
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Pedestrian Curb Ramp Construction program helps Iowa cities comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on primary roads. It supports construction of ADA-compliant curb ramps on municipal extensions of primary roads, rather than road improvements in general. Any Iowa city may request funding for work meeting these requirements.
The program combines city-led engineering and project administration with departmental review. Cities are responsible for engineering and administering their projects, while Iowa DOT reviews all plans and specifications. DOT staff also approve and select projects for funding.
