The Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA) and the Foundation for Ichthyosis & Related Skin Types (FIRST) jointly support research relevant to children and families facing ichthyosis and related conditions. These genetic skin disorders have no cure and can cause physical complications and substantial psychological and quality-of-life burdens. The program aims to advance high-impact research that addresses these needs.
Supported basic science may investigate keratinocyte biology and differentiation, genetics, skin inflammation, itch, or other ichthyosis-related topics. Clinical research may improve diagnosis or quality of life, define quality-of-life measures, expand knowledge of topical or systemic treatments, or investigate specific disease features. Investigators are encouraged to use the National Registry for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Disorders when appropriate and to support FIRST’s and PeDRA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
