Key Information: Applicants must select and implement an evidence-based peer-to-peer suicide prevention program.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Student Services Team administers this grant for peer-to-peer suicide prevention in high school grades. Schools may establish a new program or support one already in place. Programs train students to recognize signs of suicide, respond and seek help for themselves or peers, and connect students with trusted adults and resources.
The approach uses messages of hope, health, and strength to develop peer leaders and promote student well-being. Funding priorities include evidence-based or best-practice programs, prevention of youth risk behaviors related to suicide, and equitable geographic distribution. State law directs DPI to give preference to applications that implement a peer-to-peer program.
