The Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania offers annual fellowships to standing faculty in the humanities and allied departments. Awards support individual research related to the Center’s annual theme while bringing fellows into an interdisciplinary community. The documented 2027–2028 theme is Empire, inviting concrete, materialist investigation of empire across any geographical region or historical period, including struggles against imperialism and colonialism.
The Empire program examines culture, ideology, knowledge production, and institutions as sites of imperial governance and contestation. Penn Faculty Fellows join Mellon Postdoctoral Fellows, Regional Faculty Fellows, and Doctoral Fellows in weekly Mellon Seminars. This shared program places individual projects in conversation with research across disciplines and career stages through presentations and responses to colleagues’ work.
