    Description

The Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation (PERF), in partnership with the Child Neurology Society (CNS), offers the Shields Research Grant to support translational or clinical research by child neurologists and developmental pediatricians early in their academic careers. Every project must include a clinical research or patient-care component, but the research does not need to focus on epilepsy.

The Shields grant is one of two PERF-CNS Career Development Research Grant opportunities for early-stage investigators, alongside the Elterman Research Grant. It supports investigators whose training and prior funding fall within the program’s early-stage eligibility limits. Mentorship of early-stage investigators is a core PERF value, and PERF grants require a mentoring plan and a study team that includes a child neurologist.
