The PFC Shane W. Cantu Grant is administered by the Shiawassee Community Foundation to support veterans’ programs and projects in the Shiawassee County area of Michigan. Its focus encompasses locally based work benefiting veterans, with support available for both programs and projects through the foundation’s year-round grant application.
The fund honors PFC Shane W. Cantu, who died on August 28, 2012, during his first tour of duty in Afghanistan when an explosive device struck his compound in Charkh. He served in the United States Army’s 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and was Shiawassee County’s first fatality in that war.
